Brightening Student Lives: WATTS ON Scales to Sierra Leone

Dear Friends, we’re thrilled to share that Econic Earth is scaling our WATTS ON: Lighting Students’ Lives program into Sierra Leone! After witnessing the incredible impact in East Africa (Kenya and Zambia), we're expanding west. Thanks to the continued support of partners like ChildFund, we will launch a pilot program this December reaching 2,200 students — empowering young learners who currently study by candlelight or kerosene.

Core Mission: “Together, we’re bringing clean energy and brighter futures to rural classrooms. Your belief in this mission is lighting the way, one student, one school, one community at a time.”

Why Sierra Leone? The Challenge & Our Solution

Sierra Leone is a nation of resilience, but it faces significant energy challenges that impact education:

  • The Challenge: Only 35.5% of households have electricity access. In rural areas, the lack of light cuts study hours short and dims educational opportunities for determined children.
  • Our Solution: Through the WATTS ON program, we provide portable solar study lamps , comprehensive training, and 1–2 years of impact monitoring to turn every light into a powerful tool for education.

Beyond Light: A Glimpse of Impact in Kenya

Our history in Kenya, where Econic Earth began, validates our model. In northern Kenya’s Marsabit County, we helped establish the Parkishon Education Center and Study Library. This center, supported by ChildFund and other partners, has grown into a community hub serving over 500 learners, empowering both children and adults. This holistic approach ensures sustainable change.
